I forgot to mention that the day after planting the 131 fruit trees….. (Dramatic pause for effect)…. the irrigation pump shut down! With trees wilting in the drought, I rushed to find the problem. I now understand the saying “There is never a plumber around when you need one”. I needed a plumber who could work on 2hp pumps and catchment systems or was familiar with well pumps.

After 2 days of bad leads and no callbacks, I opened the pump myself and found the impellers broken. I had already ordered a rebuild kit to include those parts. In the meantime I will jerry rig something to get water to the most critical trees. The ones dying first are the cacao (chocolate) trees.

My property inspection looms and I needed to hire someone to finish the weed-whacking. Luckily I found a guy who is doing a great job at a reasonable price. His English is not good and my Russian is non-existent. We seem to get along fine as I just leave him to do what looks good :-)

While Googling Russian phrases I did find one translation, which seems promising and it is “my hovercraft is full of eels”. If I can just work that into the conversation somehow…
