Decades ago I joined the Gold Prospectors Association of America and the Lost Dutchman Mining Association and did my share of gold prospecting. Although not an expert, I can go out and locate, pan and separate gold from the black sand it is usually found in. This means that in a pinch and given some time, I could make some free money. Of course, if you have ever dug and panned for gold you know it is not really “free”!

I have been told that looking for gold is a very difficult task and I tell them I can make it much easier. The most important thing I tell them is this:

“Look for gold where it is, not where it isn’t”.

Of course people think I’m kidding, yet it is true. Think about it. They asked Billy the Kid why he robbed banks and he said “because that is where the money is”. It is the same thing with gold. You could look on your kitchen floor for decades and never find gold, yet could look in the right kind of stream and find lots.

Since gold is very heavy, it can be moved by water, but when the water flow slows down, gold will start to bury itself in the mud on the bottom of the stream or river. Eventually it hits bedrock and cannot go any deeper, thus it sits on the bedrock. If gold is carries along a stream or river and there is a twist in the flow (such as a right turn), if he water slows too much, the gold will sing to the bottom on the inside of the curve where the water is slowest. Thus the inside of the curve would yield more gold than the outside and deeper is better than not.

So although the answer may have sounded flip, it was actually quite accurate.

I am often asked whether being in a search engine like Google will help their business. I tell them that IF a person looks in the search engine AND uses keywords that match their website, then “maybe”.

I am asked if it is possible to make money by growing coffee. My answer is that if you have the coffee in the cellar and don’t tell anyone, then no. If you are a good salesman, then the answer is yes. I have to admit that Kona Coffee has a very good reputation and almost sells itself.

So if you ask me if you learned anything here today. My answer would have to be “it depends”!
