This afternoon I was trying to reassemble my utility shed halfway up the property. I began to get a headache and decided to take something and take a nap. About that time it also started geeting cooler and I heard thunder. When we get thunder it often is cool, and we also had a bit of rain.

Since I had not spent much time with the Labs today I brought them in off the lanai and they curled up on the floor in the bedroom. A few hours later I woke up to find I had a dog sleeping on the bed on either side of me.

I got up and fed the dogs and took them out. Since O`lena is just coming out of season, I still have her on a leash. As I moved the flashlight around, I noticed what looked like dog eyes glistening on the neighbors property. There is no house there, and they don’t own animals, so I hurried and brought my dogs back inside.

With both dogs on the lanai, I went about website management. Soon I had a phone call and as I was distracted I saw what I thought was O`Lena outside the door wanting to come in. As I aproached the door I stopped. She would not have been outside THAT door. Was this a male Lab who came to visit my female, just coming out of season? Turns out, NO, it is another female. She is kinda heavy so she is not a stray. Strays don’t eat that well :-)

The dog has a collar and a license, however it is too late in the day to check with the Humane Society about ownership.

I tried to direct the dog to its home, but she really wanted to stay here. When she crawled under my truck, I decided she may not be familiar with this part of town (so to speak) and may be able to find home in the morning. In any event, I put her in a kennel for the night with a soft dog pillow and a dog biscuit and water. She seems quite content and has not wimpered or barked yet.

She seemed quite content to stand next to me so if she does not head home in the morning, I’ll have to find her owner. I’m quite sure she has not strayed more than a street or two from home.
