The name comes from the ancient belief that Sirius, also called the Dog Star, in close proximity to the sun was responsible for the hot weather (according to Wikipedia). We are not yet in those dog days yet.

As mentioned in a previous blog, my dog O`Lena is named because of Sirius and she is out in the kennel at the moment covered with mud.

We have just endured a massive thunder and lightning storm, which brought snow to the upper altitudes on the island. I had to drive with 4-wheel drive to the farm yesterday because mud was flowing down driveways and across the street. We had 3 inches of rain and lightning split trees in half. It continues to rain today.

in 5 and a half hours, the state had 15,000 lightning strikes!

In keeping with the theme of dogs, I was in Lowe’s today and up behind me came Leland Chapman. TV viewers will note know that he is Dog Chapman’s son who lives on the Big Island and runs a branch of Da Kine Bail Bonds. You can see him in episodes of “Dog the Bounty Hunter”.

It is kinda funny because minutes before I was in Blazing Steaks (kinda a fast food steak place) and mentioned to the woman behind the counter that I saw they had set up a mobile lunch wagon in Kainaliu, right next to where Leland has the bail bonds place.

It was enough of a coincidence that I decided to blog about it.
