Let’s look at it this way. Eating horse meat or alligator might be safe (some countries do it) but the public may not want it (for whatever reason). So the public says “I want to know what I am eating” and the industry says “no, you not buying the product hurts our sales because you just don’t understand how safe it is”. The industry wants to be able to include the GMO but not let the public know what it is getting.

Let’s say that there is a requirement that GMOs be listed on a product and certain families do not eat them. In the future it is determined that a new health issue comes up and people who have not eaten the GMO are fine and people who did eat them are not. Knowing what you are eating helps determine safety and origin of problems. That is why when there is a salmonella outbreak health officials test who ate what.

Oh I know they say GMOs are safe and they may be, but keep in mind how many products have been pulled off the market and how many products have triggered law suits. EVERY ONE OF THEM was approved and thought safe at one time. There are even those who now say that if we knew now the specifics of aspirin when it was first used, it would be a prescription drug now because of its blood thinning ability and ulcer-prone capability.
