Fire and Ice

Living there is a lot like living next to a river which floods, waiting to see if the level of water will finally overflow its banks.

Living here is a novel experience. You may reside a hundred miles from an active volcano and it may be out of mind most of the time. Howvere, if the wind blows the right direction, smoke and smog fills the air and you are reminded quickly just how close you are.

We had a nice snowstorm the other day that left a couple inches of snow on the summits. By today most of it had melted and they opened the summit access road again.

It has been raining quite a bit and I heard that Maui had lightning. Usually that means more snow. We can only hope :-) (THIS JUST IN AS I TYPE THIS, another COUPLE of inches expected up on the summit).

On the other hand, I am enjoying seeing the Facebook comments of my friends back on the mainland (Atlanta and Maryland) talking about ice and snow closing down the area.

Finally, my friends Chuck and Jan told me that some of the their relatives are moving here to the Big Island to work at a resort near me. I hope they enjoy life here!
