Today, a long while after it hit the movies, I saw “Sky High”, a 2005 movie about people and kinds with super powers. It is well done and has many puns and some well known actors.

The kids are in a special high school to help evaluate their powers. Here is the back and forth:

[during Power Placement]

Coach Boomer: Did I say you were next?

Zach: Name’s Zach, Coach Boomer. Try not to drop your clipboard.

[claps his hands together and opens his arms again slowly. Nothing happens]

Coach Boomer: Any day now, superstar.

Zach: I’m doing it.

Coach Boomer: Doing what?

Zach: I’m glowing!

Coach Boomer: I don’t think so.

Zach: Well, it’s easier to see in a dark room, maybe we could turn off these lights, you could cup your hands around your eyes and look real close…

Coach Boomer: Sidekick!

Thus, Zack deos not move on to Super Hero class but is held with other losers (sidekicks).

There have been some “real” super heros, well wanna-bees who have actually gone out in public around the world and tried to fight crime. You can search the internet for actual news items and interviews.

That got me to do some research. There are Super Hero Registries so that real life crime fighters can ensure that only one of them exists.

Here are some of the items which must be considered before someone completes a registration of their Super Hero status. You may already be able to register most of these:

Your Super Hero name

What are your super powers

Your history

Your costume, colors and design

How will you get around? vehicle or propulsion

Where is your lair

What is your sphere of protection? Which city or country will you protect

Do you need a sidekick? WHat powers do they have

Who is you Super Villian foe? What powers, etc.

DO you have a catch phrase?

I recently read a paper that talked about the morality of Super Heroes. Most will not kill a villian. For example, Batman puts the Joker and other villians in Arkham Asylum, even though they keep breaking out. Could he kill the Joker if the Joker was about to kill others? What if there was no other way?

It is almost not worth being a super hero.
