The two main companies behind the spending are Monsanto and Dow Agrisciences. The issue? Maui asked for a moratorium on growing GMO products until an impact study was done. That study would have cost $500,000, 1/16th of what these two companies spent t otry to sway voters.

It is interesting that these two companies have created these blitz commercials and print ads, yet their names do not appear in the list of sponsors. They appear to be hiding. I suggest making a push for their lives.

Whether GMO is good or bad is somewhat beside the point. Many local people don’t want it grown. They don’t want it contaminating their own crops. Yes, it is not unlike a porno shop wanting to set up in your neighborhood. Don’t the citizens have a right to decide what is grown or produced in their area?

Right or wrong, many countries ban imports of GMO products and these companies don’t even want GMO listed on the labels. Thus if there is GMO corn and non-GMO corn produced in an area, these countries will avoid buying ANY of it because there may be cross pollination.

I can’t speak for DOW but Monsanto has superfund sites all around where contamination of crops and dirt keep people from living there.

I guess we will see on Tuesday if $8 million dollars can buy enough votes to let them do what they want.

Here are the figures:
