There is a free service you can subscribe to called Nixle which will alert you to many types of problems in your area. You can receive press releases, Amber Alerts, street closures, civic meeting info, etc. You can create an online account t ospecify just which alerts you want by email or mobile phone SMS.

A couple of recent items I received out here were concerning a road closure due to a fire and information about some stolen saddles and how to identify them.
