AP Reports today:

A long-awaited undersea fiber-optic cable linking Cuba with the outside world arrived on the island on Wednesday, promising a bandwidth bonanza for a country saddled with exorbitant telephone rates and among the slowest Internet connection speeds on the planet.

1st, the writer has not lived in Hawaii where some people cannot get cable tv or high speed phone service or internet. They rely upon dial up to an exchange 100 miles away which *may* net 26k dialup speed. The mountains block even TV, radio and NOAA radio reception.

2nd, remember the Nigerian scams where, because they have no money and the rest of the world does, they email and phone everyone else in the world in an attempt t oscam them?

Does this enhancment to Cuban living sound like it is ripe to shift that problem to the south of the U.S.?

I mean, it is great for them IF they can access the internet and learn how the rest of the world lives compared to themselves. I’m just worried they will try to solve their problem themselves.
