I have been smelling smoke and at first thought it was neighbors burning things to keep warm. It is 60 at night and colder up mauka (up mountain). The news just reported that there is a fire about 6 miles up Hualali volcano and 100 acres have burned. There are some dirt roads there, but not much else. It is possible that someone was hiking or dirt biking, but it really is far from everything. It is also about 5500 feet above sea level. I looked it up on Google earth.

Other than that, it has ben very clear at night, but also very dry. We are about 30% rainfall compared to last year.

Koa had a great time playing with his dog friends yesterday. Although he is about 2 and a half years old (and about 80 pounds), he had fun interacting with “Little Koa” a relative who is about 6 months old. I watched closely because I wanted to make sure that neither got carried away enough to hurt each other. They nibbled on each others ears and tails and so on. It was really fun to watch.

Atlanta was recently 28 degrees at night. I am glad I’m here. Even 60 at night is a slight complaint for me, but that 80 or so during the day, keeps me from complaining too much :-)

UPDATE: The news is now reporting the fire burned 1400 acres total!
