I Fixed Quickbooks 2016!

A couple of posts ago I mentioned a problem with Quickbooks 2016 whereby it forced people to add passwords.

Granted there is a reason to require a password to be changed and encrypt the database IF the database contains credit card info. It turns out that if a used USED TO store credit card info but deleted it, Quickbook does not clean up properly after itself.

The cure is to delete any credit card data, then rename that user, create a new user with the same info and attempt to rename the old customer back to the same name. The system will merge the two identical users but the remaining user will not have any credit card artifact left.

I did this procedure on my system and a neighbors and both of us now have no credit card artifacts and are not required to add passwords.

So I found in a day what Intuit engineers have been looking for for weeks now. Perhaps I should ask for a paycheck 🙂
