For those who have been waiting years, Google Voice is now open to all and what you want is “in there”.

It used to be called Grand Central and was the neatest thing since sliced bread. Then Google bought it and it became invitation only for over a year or so. Now you can go to Google.com/voice and just sign up.

I can go on for hours about the service, but suffice it to say, if you are just a bit geeky, just sign up and enjoy.

Whether you want to make some free long distance, or just want to decide who can call you at certain phones and times, Google Voice has it. Perhaps you get a voice mail and would rather read it than listen, that too is in there.

For just a couple cents a minute you can call international phones, even from your cell phone? Justr call in to your account, enter the pass, then a “2” and dial away. You will use cell minutes, but Google is your long distance carrier, not the cell company.

Get a telemarketer calling, it’s simple to not talk to them again.

Want to have a “CALL ME” popup on an auction without giving out your home number? It’s in there.

Most of the service is free.

You might consider using this as an inbound service rather thqan your home number, because you have more control. You may be able to turn off services on your home service if Google can do it for you.

Need a number is a different city so Mom can call you for free? It’s in there.

Read this news item (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nf/20100622/tc_nf/73990), then go to google.com/voice.

With the service just announced open to all, expect a few startup problems. Also, choose your number wisely. There is a $10 charge to change it.

Make sure you let me know how you like it.
