Years ago I heard a joke that went like this:

Mr. Spellman made millions in the bakery business. While on a visit to Rome he went to see the Pope and made a huge donation to the church.

The pope was very pleased and said, “Mr. Spellman, is there anything I can do to show my appreciation?”

“Yes, Your Holiness,”answered the baking magnate. “Could you make a little change in the Lord’s Prayer?”

“Ah, Mr. Spellman,” frowned the pope, “I am afraid that would not be possible. The Lord’s Prayer is repeated daily by millions of Christians.”

“I know,” said Spellman, “but I only want a small change. Where it says, ‘give us this day our daily bread,’ just make it, ‘Give us this day our Spellman’s pumpernickel’”

All over the U.S. venues have added a name to their identity to thank the donor who gave lots of money, or to a sponsor. Names like Sprint and HP and Xerox come t omind.

In this age of government spending and to offset having to raise taxes, I propose allowing companies to advertise, if the price is right.

For example, I would have no problem with a minor addition to the Bill of Rights such as”

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal (but not all slot machines. Ours are 10% looser at Trumps Casino).”

It’s just a thought!
