In Florida it will no longer be illegal to flash your headlights to warn drivers of a police speed trap.

California will now allow driver-less cars to be on the highway, but there must be a human in the passenger seat.

In North Carolina, it’s a misdemeanor to steal unused cooking oil, but becomes a felony if the cost of the oil and container are over #1,000.

While some of the laws may seem odd, this last one actually makes sense. What is used cooking oil used for? Well with a bit of filtering, a pinch of lye (drain cleaner) and a spot of racing fuel, it becomes diesel fuel. A side product is glycerine used to make soap. This diesel is pure compared to what you buy at the pumps, because this oil ingredient is already human grade.

We also have a law here that the theft of coffee cherry or green (unroasted) coffee can easily become a felony because it is easily converted to roasted coffee at $20 to $30 a pound. The agricultural law protects farmers who can lose tens of thousands of dollars worth of income due to a thief and a pickup truck.
