When I was young and visiting my Grandparents, I heard a noise in the ivy on the side of the basement. Thinking it was an animal I stood back and tossed a small rock in that vacinity to see what it was and get it to come out. Unfortunately I hit it and it fell to the concrete and died. It was a small chipmunk. That bothered me as I had caused its death for no reason; unlike hunting where I would use the animal for food.

As someone who is raising dogs, has delivered perhaps 40 puppies, and have a pregnant dog as I write this, I am sensitive to births and deaths. Today I found a small lizzard caught on a sticky fly strip I put it. It was probably attracted to the bugs caught on the strip and had been there a while. I tried my best to carefully get it off the strip, but it was pretty well stuck together with the glue.

After many hours of trying to nurse the guy (or gal) and get it to be able to use it feet again, I had to make the decision that it would not survive.

It is interesting to note that we tend to care more for certain animals like geckos and lizards than we do for mice, flies and the mosquito.

Sometimes little things bother us the most.
