ARE THEY CRAZY???

It is amazing that people place so much weight on being right next to the ocean. Here is why they should think again.

1) First, living close or next to the ocean means that much of your house and car is at danger of rust. Ocean mist contains salt which corrodes paint, causes electrical outlets to arc and corrode. You may be replacing appliances that corrode quickly. Glass can get etched by wind-blown sand. The sand and grit gets ground into carpeting and so on.

2) Storms cause water to encroach into your abode. Any hurricane or even heavy storm might cause flooding. Flooding can also cause sewage problems.

3) Moisture, moisture, moisture. You may find more mildew and problems close to water.

4) Tsunamis. While many places don’t have a history of a tsunami, here in Hawaii we have had a few. During one tsunami, a house here floated away. http://tinyurl.com/4pyre4y

5) A friend used to own a house right on the beach next to a famous owners house. These were multi-million dollar houses. However the area between the house and the public beach (all beaches are public in Hawaii), people would walk into the houses and make themselves at home. It was difficult to protect yourself from people who felt that if you could afford a nice house right on the water, you could afford to share what you have with the masses.

I chose a property a few miles from the beach and still have corrosion issues, however, by being up the mountain a bit, I get a nice view and a nice breeze. I’m happy.
