Well, it finally happened to me. I had a theft, although not a big one, still a theft.

I had multiple errands to do yesterday in town, getting another paint roller, renewing a prescription, food shopping and so on. My workers are due early this morning and I wanted to be home all day. That is not going to happen. I tossed the ice chest and my diesel gas can in the bed of the truck and headed to town (20 miles or so north of here). The ice chest does not have ice in it (I reuse bags of ice a number of times, refreezing the ice). I threw the last batch out and will buy a new bag if I feel I need it. I also need to get diesel for the tractor so I can finish cutting the coffee orchard for the pickers.

When I got to Walmart I noticed that I had forgotten to bring my prescription bottle. No problem because they have it in the computer. They told me that the prescription needed to be renewed through my doctor because it had expired. Later turns out it probably wasn’t expired according to the label, but they told me come back today.

I went to Radio Shack looking for a part that they didn’t have. I went to Ace Hardware and they did not have it either, but they did have one other item I wanted. I also found some hacksaw blades at a great price, so I got them.

Then it was off to Costco for food and gas. I also had  a hot dog and soda as a snack there. They have moved some shelves around and as always, moved some products around.

After Costco it was back to heading south and a stop by Safeway for some soda and frozen food. There wasn’t much I saw there that peaked my interest but I did see a friend I have not seen in a year.

After Safeway I stopped at Lowes to get some fence brackets and a few small parts.

As I headed southward from there I remembered that I still needed to get diesel fuel. Luckily there are at least 3 places where I can get it along the way. One place is at the top of my street at home and if all else fails, I can get it there in the morning. In fact, that is what I decided to do, since I now had just a few frozen items in a large ice chest and no ice.

When I got home the dogs were barking and I needed to let  them out, but I opened the ice chest and took out the few frozen things that were thawing so I could get them immediately into the freezer. It was then that I noticed that someone had taken my container for the diesel out of the back of the truck.

The container is a multi-gallon plastic one (I think 5 gallons) with a spout. It is yellow so as not to be confused with the red colored ones used for gasoline. Although diesel and gasoline are both used in cars and trucks, they are not interchangeable. Diesel is more oily and is not as flammable as gasoline, which has more fumes. Diesel here is similar to most other places, that is more expensive than gasoline. We may or may not pay a road tax for diesel. I don’t use as much diesel fuel as gasoline so I don’t worry as much about the tax, but if I was a heavy user, I would consider the tax difference.

So here I was after my trip to town, no prescription, no diesel and noting to put it in even if I did have the fuel. Walmart texted my at 8pm (after I was already home) that my prescription was ready! So now I have to drive into town today again. I could buy a container and diesel here in my little town, but I need the prescription and my current supply will run out tomorrow morning. My prescription is for my blood pressure and after the mini-theft, my pressure is rising.

The only ray of sunshine in the trip is that I DID NOT fill the diesel container as that would have been another $25 or so added to the cost of the container cost.
