If you are not aware, pineapples grow best from a sacrificed top than from seed. You twist the top off a pineapple, stick it in dirt and in about two years or so, pineapple! In mu case, I forgot about the pineapple, so the top sat on dirt in a small pot with rainwater and probably no fertilizer. Although the resulting fruit was very small (just larger than a soup can, it was just as sweet and juicy as you would hope.

I am lucky I live where things grow easily and driving along the road it is not unusual to see fruit just dropping to the ground.

Although Maui was known for pineapples, the US is not anywhere in the top 15 producer countries, yet some varieties from Hawaii are the best in the world.

Most fruit I can think of require more than 2 years from planing to fruit and also take lots more room to grow than the lowly pineapple.
