Sigh Is The Word

And you thought “Grease is the word”…

A neighbor bought a new laptop and wanted Windows 7 on it with Office. I suggested that rather than Office 365 which is a subscription service, he use a purchased copy. So I go to Amazon and Ebay and look for the cheap version, home and student, which contains all he needs.

I order a copy off Ebay and I get a notice that it has shipped. Then I get a notice from Ebay that the sellers account was probably compromised and they are cancelling the sale and removing the product from the site. I am told that if the charge has been made, to challenge it with the credit card company. I see it in a pending state but the card company can’t do anything until it posts (if it is not removed by Ebay first).

So I quickly order a new copy of the software and after I click BUY, I realize it is a MAC version of Microsoft Office. I try to cancel but it is too late. I then buy the correct version and use the download link and authorization code to license it with Microsoft.

So, one copy installed, one cancelled and one for a Mac. I have neighbors with a Mac who may want that version, but here is the issue. With all these purchases and Ebay messages and so on, I have about 12 emails for these transactions and I don’t see the download link for the Mac version yet. I am going to have to print the emails, sort by the product numbers and sellers names and track what happened to that Mac version.

This was what I spent many hours doing last night. It is a wonder I get anything done.
