Then I helped with the A.I. of my dog Koas Mom. She is in season and the stud is on the mainland. Thus a Fedex delivery.

As Fedex and the pallet delivered, the meat delivery came. We had 3 volunteers helping while Sandra and I finished with the hopefully soon-to-be expectant Mom.

After helping get the meat delivery sorted out into orders, I headed into town. I checked both Lowes and Home Depot for flooring. I think I have decided on vynal sheet goods for the lanai. I would have liked a permanent solution, but the area can get wet and that interlocking wood flooring is not waterproof. Also, real tiles would be great, but I don’t have much time. The area I need to refloor has indoor/outdoor carpeting which is a mess. Koa and O`lena make that area of the lanai their home when they are not outrside. In about a week I hope to have 10 puppies out there. I could put them in a kennel near the house, however it is difficult to find a level spot with grass. I would also have to build or buy a small doghouse to keep them dry; although they ARE Labradors and love water and being wet. Then I would ahve to put a roof over part of the area and make sure that the littlest pup cannot get out of the area (through the mesh). I also have to make sure O`Lena can get in and out easily to continue to nurse them.

At Costco I could not find the bulk yogurt so had to get that elsewhere. I was able to get 2 of the Saigon Cinnamins ($2.69 for 10.7 oz!) and there was a real deal on CFL lights. Although they are only the equivalent of 60 watt bulbs, at .29 for 4, I could not resist. That makes them about 7 cents each for a CFL light bulb. Even if they last 6 months the money I save on electricity is tremendous. You should know that Hawaii has one of, if not THE highest electric costs in the U.S.

Speaking of nursing and such, today the pups are 3 weeks and 2 days old and they are starting on solid food. I expect “Little Pup” to catch up in weight. SO tonight they started on ground beef *(80/20) and ground beef heart, raw egg and yogurt. They finished 2 portions and I will keep feeding them until they stop eating each meal. This is what dogs are SUPPOSED to be eating, MEAT! The yogurt and egg are added as suppliments like calcium from the yogurt.

In the whelping box I placed a circular puppy dish with the meat mixture. The pups quickly lined up and dug in; their little “otter” tails wagging. It is funny to see them devour dinner so quickly and I’m sure that O`Lena will be happier now that the pups have sharper nails and their teeth are starting to come in.

Photos will be taken as soon as I get get someone to help hold them. I have not yet advertised them and hope to finish the website soon. It will be at KonaLabradors.Com.

If you didn’t figure it out, “Standing Room” refers to the pups standing to eat.
