The Thick Plotens

Oftentimes there are movies which are produced which are nothing more than a remake. Did they have to to remake “Auntie Mame?”. As much as I enjoyed Lucille Ball over the years, I agree with many that this was not her best movie.

I loved the Mission Impossible TV series, but the Tom Cruise movie was a letdown and I avoided all other sequels. Why? Well the treatment of the Jim Phelps character was badly done.

If I mentioned a movie plot in a vague way, could you guess the title? Let’s try. A group of young kids/teens/campers separate from others and end up in the woods/house/school/island where a crazed/demented/member of the group tortures/kills them/others off one by one.

Got that title? Children of the Corn, Carrie, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Final, Eden Lake, oh the list goes on. Actually I may have described 30 movies.

So I was thinking about movies and I remembered a couple that had different plots.

One is called “The Joyriders” and IMDB explains it thus:

A suicidal older man, Gordon Trout, is kidnapped for his car and money by three runaway teenagers who live on the streets. Their experiences together make them a close-knit family, but the nature of the crime committed could tear them apart. The intricacies of these complex relationships are explored through an emotional story with twists and turns.

I found it to be a very good movie and has a few actors you will recognize.

The second movie I saw on TV and had missed the opening. My review on IMDB was:

I was channel surfing one day and found this movie minutes after the opening credits. I thought it was a Quincy episode and started watching. I soon realized it was a move.

As the movie progressed I said “ah ha!” that I knew who did what. Minutes later I was proved wrong but THEN thought that I knew what was up. Again I was proved wrong. Soon I realized that I was being led down the primrose path. This back and forth happened throughout the movie.

By the end of the movie I realized how well it had been crafted. I felt is was a good choice of cast members too.

I highly recommend this movie if you can find it!

That movie was called “One Of My Wives is Missing”.

IMDB synopsis explains the plot as:

Daniel Corban’s wife Elizabeth disappeared after they had a fight. Then she shows up, yet he insists that the woman isn’t actually his wife.

So when you want to watch a movie, hopefully you will find one that is not a remake of a remake of a remake, but is actually fun to watch.
