What’s The Use?

What’s the use?

On a travel forum I frequent, A husband asked about best airline and Hawaiian island to visit for 5 days. That would be an easy answer except he mentioned the were bringing their 2 year old along too.

I had to all but keep my mouth shut. What is the use of having kids, if you have to drag them along on your trips? (You may begin to wonder why I’m not married.)

A 2 year old will not enjoy or remember the trip. You will rearrange your activities for no reason because of that. Already the suggestions are for the family to take a late night trip so the baby hopefully will fall asleep. They are looking at a direct and more expensive flight. They will still need to look into a babysitter for certain times and activities out here. They will certainly have to leave the child somewhere if they want to visit Volcanoes National Park or go snorkeling or whatever. Anyone who has traveled before can relate how much extra time and equipment children need on a trip.

Babysitters were invented for a very valid reason!

I think I can speak from experience because when I was very young, my parents were able to escape to locations overseas while my older Sister and I were left in the care of relatives and friends. We were none the less for care or love and grew to be self-sufficient. My parents were not dumping us, rather they were enjoying some time off and allowing us to grow independent.

It reminds me of families who want to bring a dog along to Hawaii for a weeks vacation. They seem to have no clue that putting an animal in the hold of a plane for 5 to 11 hours is NOT in the best interest for a pet. That plus the many months advance preparations that need take place.

In both cases: LEAVE THEM HOME WHEN YOU ROAM!

(Note: this posting contains a bit of sarcasm, in case you missed that)
