Also, people were afraid that when the original series started, that visitors would think that Hawaii was all crime and visitors would stay away in droves. It turns out that the series actually brought waves of visitors who saw the show for what it was, entertainment with some of the best background scenes in the world!

Most of the series was filmed on Oahu, but a few episodes were filed off island. At least 1 episode was filmed on the Big Island on what looked like Parker Ranch land.

A number of locals were also featured, newsmen and TV personalities and yes, even the famous “Hilo Hattie” who later lent her name to the store chain.

Steve’s office was in a grand old building which visitors know as the I`olani Palace, an official U.S. Royal Palace! The room in the upper right corner (where Steve’s office was supposedly located, was the bedroom of the Queen who was imprisoned there while the kingdom was taken from her. That is kinda of an interesting use of the location!

Astute viewers will also note that 50 was supposed to be a State Police office, which Hawaii does not have! Each main island is a county with a county police force, so no state police force here. I wonder if any other states can say that?
