It was set up as a way to get people to come “downtown” to Waikiki Beach area. It worked and when I happened upon it I was impressed and ate my words. The movie that night was “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, part of which was filmed in Hawaii. Another movie was of course, Lilo and Stich. If you have seen it and visited Kauai, you will have recognized many places portraid. Disney sent the cartoonists to Kauai to get accurate backgrounds.

This Monday, the movie will be the premier of the new Hawaii-50 show. There will be 400 VIP’s there (including cast members) in a very laid back, yet fantastic and appropriate place to hold the preview.

The actual CBS showing of the 1st episode will be shown exactly 42 years after the original show debuted on CBS. Except for some lucky Hawaiian Airlines passengers, the Sunset on the Beach attendees will be the only previewers.

If you watched Star Trek (the original series), you know George Takei is in town for a special event, talking about how his family was taken to an internment camp in 1942 because they “looked like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor”.

If you watched the Little League World Series, you know that Waipio Hawaii came in second behind Tokyo. In Hawaii’s defense, they were fantastic and had played many days in a row while Tokyo had rest days. So Tokyo became the International Champions, but Waipio remains the US Champions! A parade in Honolulu for them and a number of other outstanding teams was held Sunday. As a side note, the team and their parents racked up something like $10,000 in expenses for their trip to the east coast and local citizens here have made donations to help defray those charges that the parents were all to happy to pay on their own. Still, the outpouring of cash will help quite a bit!

Continuing with the “Home” theme of the blog, I am making preparations to go visit my Mom on the mainland soon. I opted for “First Class” because after all this work on the farm, i DESERVE to be pampered a bit fro a change. Now if the plane just had a hot tub…

Aloha for now!
