Being Prepared

Although I didn’t watch the whole trial, I did watch parts of the Jodie Arias trial. A woman was convicted of killing her boyfriend. At first she said she wasn’t in town, then she was there but masked intruders broke in and killed him, then oh yeas, she did kill him but it was self defense. Camera photos she was taking were part of her downfall. The boyfriend did not own a gun and Jodies father’s house (where she was living) had been mysteriously robbed of a gun (the same caliber) a week before. When she went to the boyfriends house many states away, she had bought gas cans and filled them, in an apparent attempt to not have to buy gas along the way and show that she was there. She thought that she was prepared, but it seems not.

The verdict came down and the jury was scheduled to come in the next day and debate the penalty phase, then they could go home after about 5 months of trial. However Jodie immediately made a TV interview where she stated that her best outcome, because of good genes in her family, that the death penalty would be her preference over a long life in prison. The jail took that to be a death wish and is having her evaluated and under a suicide watch. The poor jury. That is not all, HSN has been covering the trial and would have switch to another trial by now but because there is now an extra weeks delay, are recycling the trial information for yet another week. I guess they didn’t have anything else to report.

On a kids show they visited Crystal River where they were interacting with Manatees. I thought Crystal River was in Florida so I googled it. The first page I found was the citys webpage and on it was this note about being prepared.

Disaster Preparedness

BE PREPARED – Remember to obtain your Re-enty pass now in order to regain entry into your neighborhood following an evacuation. Please click here for locations where a Re-enty pass can be obtained.

Hmmm, how often do they evacuate? I guess they are as prepared as we are for earthquakes and tsunamis.

Also on TV, a housing development in California which is sinking, similar but different from a sinkhole I guess. Small cracks in houses are the precursor of the big cracks and eventual sliding of the foundation into the abyss (of sorts). It makes you want to run next time you see a small carck in the sheet rock, huh?
