Day Before Yesterday

I stopped up and helped my friend set up her new computer. The old one is very old and very slow. All of my tricks and scans turned up no viruses or problems, but slow it was.

I have called and faxed and emailed my mortgage company about a bill they need to pay, but they seem to not be able t otake care of it. I decided to stop into a branch of theirs in town. I got there by 2pm and a sign on the door said “Closed, we will return at 8:30″. I figured they did not mean PM so I will stop by Saturday.

I headed up to Diamond Head Sprinkler and talked with Lynette. As mentioned here previously, my water line is PVC and runs 400 fetfrom the road below, through my neighbors coffee field and up to my house. It appears to be 1″ pipe at the meter and somewhere along the way transitions to 3/4″ by the time it gets to the house. This is not by design, rather just they way it has been patched over the years I guess.

Since the pipe has gotten a bit brittle, it breaks. Also my neighbors may hit it at times. I bought some “driscopipe”. I have been spelling it Driscol but I stand corrected (until I forget and revert back). Many people know it as HDPE, a flexible black pipe when in smaller diameters. although I could have used 3/4″ all the way to the house, I opted for 1″ to help cut down friction loss.

I got 500′ of pipe in a single roll and will have to get help unrolling it and trudging it down to the street below. Because we do not bury pipes here in South Kona (too much solid rock), it will lay on the surface. With help, I could have this thing replaced in 2 hours. Once in Georgia I had to rent a digger todig up old pipe and then had to fashion a nozzle to ram PVC under my existing driveway. It took days to get my water back on.

I also bought a new irrigation controller with a remote control. I am tired of walking or driving back and forth across the farm to make adjustments and repairs. Now I can wirelessly control things. I may not know water friction losses, but I do know how to cement these PVC pipes together and have watched the process to melt HDPE pipes together. I also am pretty good on deciding how to lay out valves and controllers. No, I am not thinking of working in the irrigation business, I already DO!

After the trip to town I mowed the rows between the fruit trees.
