For the sun to be directly overhead at noon, you have to be in the tropics, close to the equator. Here we call it Lahina Noon after the town of Lahaina on Maui. Lihue on Kauai had theirs on May 31 and July 11th. Ours was May 18th and will be on July 24th.

Because the sun will be directly overhead at noon, a flagpole or building will have no shadow for a short while!
