I am going to have to hire some guys to work the farm because I just can’t catch up. Maybe more caffeine would help? :-)

I was going to create some gift baskets to sell online (ItsKona.Com) but decided to call them Gift Assortments instead. This means that I don’t have to find cellophane to wrap things in or make it look pretty. I could just pack as much in the box as I could and keep the customers cost down. I can do that because I am only limited by the size of the shipping bax as I use flat rate shipping. If it fits, it ships, for a fixed price. In the case of the items I put in there, I buy things in bulk and get a better deal than buying specific items. Thus I can get a large container of sample-sized candy bars and toss 6 in the box.

I created a spreadsheet of what items cost me and rounder them up and down. It turns out that I am selling the items at cost or slightly below cost. I do this to encourage coffee sales. The assortments include a bag of coffee (ground or whole bean) and I may even throw in a free calendar as it is getting close to the new year and calendar sales have a tendency to drop off after New Years.

One issue I had was filling each basket, figuring out what might go together and determining the price. Then I had to take everything out of the box, try to take a representative photo and put things back in the box. Each box is different and I probably will not offer 2 of the same, unless I get a specific request.

Of course I also offer deals on other items too.

As I am close to running out of my own coffee, I will be offering some from a neighbors farm soon. I was back and forth in the hospital during the critical pruning, fertilizing and prep time this year and my crop was not as large as it could have been. Just hiring guys to weed the coffee area costs $270 each time. It takes a lot of coffee sales to pay them off. Still, isn’t that the price we pay for living in Paradise?
