Rainy Days And Mondays

I had two brothers cut down weeds around the coffee and fruit orchard. They left just before the rain started. My big problem each time I pay someone to do this, is that it pours down rain for days and I never get to spraying weed killer. Then the weeds grow back at a furious rate and I call in the troops again to weed whack.

The next morning it rained so no work outside. Then I had a dry day and got the first 12 rows cleared of suckers. Suckers are the little branches and leaves that grow in the trunk of a tree. In my case I have to clear a foot or two at the base of every coffee and fruit tree because the weed killer I use can cause damage to the tree if those suckers start sucking up weed killer.

I went to each tree in those rows, stooped down and cleaned the trunks. It was only a few hours work however the next morning I could hardly stand. I am in a lot of pain from using muscles that have not seen work in a while. Today I’ll spray those rows of trees but I will also call the brothers and gladly pay them to come finish what I started.

I have one thing going for me though. When I had my last surgery, the doctor prescribed some pain medicine which it turns out I didn’t need. Thank goodness I have it because I could not even get out of bed last night or this morning. So I found the container and popped a pill. I actually felt the pain disappear. The medicine? oxycodone. The medicine started working in 15 minutes and I can see why some people abuse it. As an aside, I am unable at this time to relax in a hot tub or bathtub, as some of you may be thinking of recommending.

Many of the strong pain medicines don’t sit well with some of my family. We seem to get an upset stomach from many of these things. When I was in for my heart operation the doctor prescribed morphine and other pain medicines. I asked for and was given Tramadol, which is a lot weaker and not prone to misuse. In fact, it is a common pain medicine given for minor pain in hospitals. The doctor was unsure if this would work well for me but it did. In fact in most cases, I end up taking 1/2 the dosage.

So although I have enough medicine to get through doing the rest of the trees, I’ll hire the guys back and gladly pay them so I don’t have to endure any more pain (or pain relief).

With that all said, I also have to tell you that I lost track of time. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, this happened before I took the pain medicine.

I thought Monday was Sunday, scheduled a trip to Costco and was going to stop by a restaurant to hear a friend play some Hawaiian music. As I got into town and called a friend, he told me it was Monday, not Sunday. Phooey!

I don’t subscribe to cable TV and can’t pick up stations by antenna, so most of my TV watching is by way of streaming sources such as Amazon on my Roku box. Thus, unless I am careful, it is easy to not know what day it is as I can watch what I want, when I want.

I thought it was odd that Kaiser, my medical group, called me on a Sunday to schedule my next trip to Oahu for my “operation”. This one will be an overnight-er only because the procedure is scheduled for late afternoon. In fact, they say it *could* be done as an outpatient procedure, but prefer to keep people overnight just in case. The procedure will trim a part of my prostate which cannot be alleviated with medicines. After this, I don’t expect any other health issues for quite some time, although I didn’t quite expect the quadruple bypass my heart got in January.

I should have fencing installed at the house which will allow the dogs to be left here, instead of driving them down to a neighbors farm way south of here.

So far today there is little to no wind and no rain clouds yet, so it looks like I can spray those first rows of coffee, so I’d better get going. Half the day’s gone (as they say) and it is only 7:30am!
