From time to time I go look at the Halemaumau Crater Webcam to see what the volcano is doing. Although there are various flows from the thing, this crater is within the Volcano National Park and just a mile or so from a populated military rest area. How restful can it be staying near an active volcano? Well, pretty restful MOST of the time!

Another house down in Kalapana has met the fate of molten rock. A woman came back from shopping and saw glowing near her house and thought it was a rescue. Turns out it was the “light of a distant fire” consuming her house in lava. Now THAT is not as restful.
