The Trip

Recently I flew to the mainalnd to visit my Mom and to attend a reunion at my nearby High School. At the reunion, I was the only one there from my graduating class, but admittedly, it was not a decade or half-decade milestone. I expect many people there in a few years when it is. I did however garner an award for being the one who came the furthest to attend (6 time zones or 1/4 way around the world).

I had to wear a suit to the dinner and it was difficult to find one. After the dinner I left the suit at my Sisters for future use. We have little to no use for suits in Hawaii.

I removed Direct TV from my Sisters house because she was paying a lot for essentually infomercial channels. I bought and installed a Roku and set her up with Netflix and Hulu.

I ordered an antenna (with fast delivery) from Amazon and installed that. She is now also getting about 2o+ channels from Norfolk near her. She appears to be a “happy camper” (that is, if campers are allowed TV).

I hooked up a few of the TVs in the house to these signals.

Those of you on Facebook know that I have been promoting the Hokmulea, a Hawaiian outrigger which is circumnavigating the world using the stars. I saw it here a year or so ago in Kealakekua Bay as it started its journet. While visiting the Norfolk Virginia area, the Hokulea was visiting Yorktown just a few miles from where I was staying.

I went one day and waitied 3 hours but the crew was off teaching and have a rest. The day before I left to come back home I stopped by the ship one last time. As I was about to leave the crew appeared at the end of the pier. I aproached and turned to one crew member and said “By the way, this is a joke” to let them know I was not crazy. I turned to the crew and said “Welcome to AMERICA! I have some local delacacies, we cvall these MACADAMIA NUTS and KONA COFFEE” opening the bag and handing them to a crew member. They probably still thought I was crazy but at least they had snacks from home 🙂

The crew allowed me to board the ship for about 10 minutes as they prepared for a VIP visit from the Provost of the College of William and Mary. I wandered a bit and took a few photos.

Although the trip was long both directions, I enjoyed visiting with my Mom (she’s 95), the family, my schoolmates and the crew.
